Mouse Paint K & 1st Grade

Kindergaten and First Grade got to experiment with color mixing after reading the story "Mouse Paint" by Ellen Stoll Walsh.

After reading the story we disscussed primary and secondary colors and what colors make what using this Prezi:

I then gave the students these Mouse Paint work sheets that were set up as visual Math problems. I liked using these addition problems to help make the connection of combining colors since these students had never experimented with color mixing.

1st Grade did a similar work sheet along with a blank color wheel.

The next part of the lesson was to make the mice. Kindergarten drew them out choosing either primary or secondary colors while 1st grade did a collage on top of their painted paper that had all the colors. For the project, student only received red, yellow, and blue on their paint plates and they were required to mix the secondary colors. Kindergarten also did some collage on the last day when we put together a cat from the story. I also love that some of the Kindergarten students included the paint puddles that the mice danced in and even paintbrushes! So cute!

1st Grades paintings turned out wonderful as well!
