AR Party and Hispanic Heritage Month
Our school Media Specialist, Mr. Langley, put together a celebration for students that took atleast one AR test and passed. He decided to make it Fiesta themed since it was during Hispanic Heritage month. He asked me to help out with the party so my 4th grade students made pinatas for the whole school to use. We made them out of balloons and paper mache. They ended up being attached to a rope around the basketball goal in the gym and we used metal coat hangers. Some were spray painted and some were covered in colored tissue paper, but I really loved how sturdy they turned out! I taught 3rd grade how to make papel picado that we used as decorations. Some students used a design template and some cut out their own designs. When everyone finished I attached all of their artwork onto one continuous string around the gym.
The students who did not get to participate in breaking the pinatas still got to do the limbo, macarena, and the hokey pokey at the end of the party. The event turned out really fun and I think it will encourage students to reach their AR goals before next months party, which will be musical chairs.
Here is a picture of the pinatas being hung to dry after we made them in the courtyard.
Here is a picture of one of the pinatas being smashed. I love how the candy is flying at Mr. Langleys face in this photo!
